Chie Blakeney

Chie has a Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance from Soai University in Japan. She also has performance experience with the piano as well. Chie was one of the privileged performers chosen to be in the university orchestra during her tenure there.
A bilingual (English-Japanese) native of Osaka, Japan she started to play the piano at the age of 2, and began playing the harp at 15.
Under the tutelage of Nippon Harp Association Executive Directors Eiko Masui and Junko Tabuchi, she took the master class at the international harp festival at 17. She has also studied the piano under Juilliard Graduate Izumi Nagayama.
Chie is the owner of "Sound of Harp Hawaii", and an authorized dealer of "Aoyama Harp Hawaii". She aspires to nurture the future harpist and introduce the healing and calming benefits of the harp to Hawaii.

Tatiana Grecic
Tatiana has a PhD in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master's in Composition and Theory from Carnegie-Mellon University and she is certified in two children's teaching methods, Suzuki and Kindermusik. During her high school years, she won “The 1981 October Prize in Composition” for the city of Belgrade. Some of her best compositions have been performed at some of the most famous stages in the world. Her piece for chamber orchestra, was performed at the Fulton Theatre in Pittsburgh her symphonic piece was performed by the Carnegie-Mellon University Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Tatiana has been teaching music at various schools, colleges, and universities (piano, composition and theory, basic musicianship, harmony, counterpoint, piano ensemble, orchestration, improvisation, notation, voice, and many other subjects) for over 20 years. She taught at Carnegie-Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, Chatham College, Community College of Allegheny County, New Mexico Highlands University where she founded and led the composition program, Bermuda Conservatory of Music, and Bermuda School for the Performing Arts. Since 1991, she has also been exploring the sound of pop, new age and rock. She was involved as a singer, keyboardist and songwriter, performing with various bands in the Pittsburgh area. Her compositions have been influenced by many styles: new-age, pop, progressive rock andclassical (especially impressionism). Many of her pieces and songs were performed internationally and she has composed, recorded and produced five CD’s through Core-Age Records. Max Dutton

Maxamillian Dutton is a professional drummer and percussionist with a passion for music. He has been playing drums for 12 years and has experience in all styles including rock, jazz, hip-hop, gospel, metal, reggae and even latin. Max have played in multiple indoor drum lines as well as with Legends in Concert Waikiki. He is currently a United States Marine playing with the MarForPac band. Max has been teaching both children and adults for years and loves spreading the word of music to everyone around him.

Christoph Hoffman

Jegaan Faye

Jegaan Singh Faye was born in Alexandria Virginia in 1987. His mother worked for the U.S. State Department which allowed Jegaan to experience life at a young age overseas. He spent 8 years in Japan, 4 years in the Philippines, and 1 year in Africa to name a few countries where he lived long term. Jegaan first started playing the drums at the age of 6 in Tokyo, Japan. In the Philippines Jegaan studied the guitar. He then studied Vocal Performance for 5 years and sang in the touring advanced choir ensemble in Hawaii at the Leeward Community College under Marilyn Liu Kim. Jegaan is working as a freelance musician and teacher. He is involved and has performed in many venues in Hawaii including, JazzMinds Art & Cafe, Hawaiian Brian’s, Tiki's, Corner Kitchen, Real Gastropub, Lu Lu’s, Sheraton Waikiki’s Rum Fire and other similar venues. The group that Jegaan is currently performing with is called Young Souls. Their music is a blend of jazzy acoustic renditions, up-tempo funk, soulful modern-day crooning. Jegaan aspires to enhance his musicality, his performance career, and to tour internationally back to all the places he knew and loved as a child.

Bob Frost rescued Kailua Music School in 2003 after 10 years of operations. As a professional bass player and music lover, Bob Frost or "Frosty" saw a need for a quality music school in the Kailua community. Bob has a BSBA from Hawaii Pacific University and owns, Up Your Assets, Inc., an accounting firm specializing in tax planning, preparation and intervention. Bob believes that music will save the world and he has put his money where his mouth is.

Scott Shafer

He earned his bachelor's degree in professional music from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. With over 35 years of experience his history covers a broad musical landscape including Big Band Jazz, bebop, Jazz Fusion, Musicals, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Orchestral, Funk, R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Island Contemporary and World Music. He is currently working with Hawaii's hottest R&B band : Eight0Eight, Island Music band: Redemption InC, Jazz quartet : 16th Ave.Quartet, Island Contemporary band : Manoa DNA as well as a healthy dose of various freelance projects. Scott's has been teaching professionally for over 20 years. Through these years he's developed a keen sense for recognizing an individual's learning strengths thus utilizing those strengths to maximize one's learning experience.

Lesley Kline

Lesley Kline attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Conservatoire de Champigny-sur-Marne, outside of Paris. Although classically trained, she has been a professional fiddle player for over 20 years. She was based in Paris for 12 years touring throughout Europe and is now actively performing in Hawaii. Her styles of fiddle playing include bluegrass, country, Irish, Mexican, cajun, western swing, jazz, blues, rock and free-style improvisation.

Luke Trimble

Luke Trimble is an award-winning classical guitarist based in Kailua. Under the direction of renowned composer and guitarist Bryan Johanson, Luke graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music from Portland State University. He has performed with members of the Honolulu Symphony, the Air Force Band of the Pacific, the UH Contemporary Music Ensemble, and numerous chamber players. Widely recognized for his versatility as a performer and educator, Luke’s diverse work has taken him across the globe as a soloist, with various ensembles, and as a dedicated teacher.

Chris Vandercook

Chris Vandercook is a masterful guitarist who also teaches ukulele. Chris believes lessons should be designed with a strong emphasis on fundamentals. Kimo Hussey

Kimo Hussey has traveled the world promoting the ukulele. He has a college degree in music and extensive expeience teaching the ukulele. Kimo embraces teaching as a means of sharing and nurturing the student's interest in music and ukulele.
Kimo has produced CDs and is co-author of a Hawaiian songbook "He Mele Aloha." He is also co-founder of the Pacific Music Foundation. We are honored to have Kimo Hussey listed among our excellent music instructors.

Shari Lynn

Shari Lynn has been an important part of the entertainment field in Hawaii for over 30 years, having helmed her own radio and TV shows, starred in concerts with the Honolulu Symphony, appeared in every major showroom across the Islands - including working alongside The Brothers Cazimero in their Royal Hawaiian Monarch Room debut. She’s been the headliner on cruise ships and led several successful bands, in major hotels across the US as well as in Hawaii. She’s appeared on the stage of almost every theatre in Hawaii and is the nine time recipient of Hawaii’s “Tony” award - The Po’okela. She’s a Cabaret artist who writes and produces shows for herself and her “partner in crime,” jazz great Jimmy Borges She’s a founding member of the Andrews Sisters tribute acts, The Jive Sisters and Savoy Sisters In her 14th year as Director of Music at La Pietra – Hawaii School For Girls, she teaches voice, music theory, music history, Musical theatre performance and conducts the acclaimed Select Choir, leading them on major tours of the mainland and Europe.

Kathleen Kattija-Ari

Kathleen earned a Bachelors in Music Education from Baker University located in Baldwin City, Kansas. In 1980, upon completion of a Master's in Music Ed. from James Madison University, Kathleen began a private apprenticeship in Piano Technology with (then president of the Piano Technicians Guild Inc.) Mr. Ernie Preiutt in Independence, Missouri. Kathleen is a licensed craftsmen member of the Piano Technicians Guild Inc. with 32 years of experience in tuning and repairing acoustic pianos. She brings to Kailua Music School over 25 years of teaching experience in piano, flute, beginning guitar and music theory.
